Shane Hoffmire (he/him/his) developed his work ethic, determination, and sense of community as a young boy while growing up and playing baseball in small-town Indiana. Moving to Oak Harbor the summer of 1999 he became involved in farming quickly rising from laborer to owner/operator. In 2005 with a focus on his young family Shane switched professions and began employment in custom homebuilding. In 2009 Shane began his public sector career in Building Maintenance and Modernization. This path led him to becoming the Director of Maintenance and Aquatic Facility Operations for the North Whidbey Pool, Park and Recreation District in 2021.
Coaching baseball in town for many years, Shane has often felt it is the most rewarding job that he has ever had "reward is always at its pinnacle when contribution is."
Shane served as an elected Commissioner for the North Whidbey Pool, Park, and Recreation District (NWPPRD) beginning in 2015 through 2020. Leading reasons that motivated his involvement with the Board of Commissioners are: his belief that volunteerism and giving back to the community through service is essential, acknowledging that the District is an invaluable resource for the community, Whidbey Island offering the most inclusive environment you will find and with some of the best year-round opportunities. Together we can continue growing to meet even more of the community’s needs.
During his tenure within NWPPRD, Shane held every position on the Board, gaining invaluable experience:
· 2015-2020: Commissioner
· 2017: Board Chairman
· 2018: Acting-Chair and Vice-Chair
Under his leadership, Shane worked tirelessly and helped to achieve what seemed to be the impossible. In 2017 as the effort to reopen the pool, after the levy failed, was engineered in partnership with the community. In 2018, while splitting time as Vice-Chair and Acting Chair, Shane continued his tireless efforts throughout the successful reopening of the John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool. Shane handled the Facility Maintenance and Operations until levy funding became available and much needed renovations could be completed.
Shane lives for time in the mountains with his family and their dogs.
Shane Hoffmire has great pride in being able to bring change and success through political involvement and to see the fruits of his endless efforts. One of his greatest wishes is that everyone would become involved in the political process.
Now is the time to bring this same results driven intention to fighting for an affordable future. The citizens of Oak Harbor deserve to have their voices heard and to be represented by one of their own.
"It's the People that I represent, that's why I serve, and I believe any success is ours together and that success is best shared."
My campaign leans heavily on three principles : affordability, accountability and livability.
1) Affordability : My approach to every decision has been, and will continue to be, based on how it affects the average citizen in Oak Harbor and how affordable it will be to its residents.
2) Accountability: As I have often stated in the past, and continue to stand by, speaking up for every Oak Harbor citizen is what drives me. I am ready to continue to work hard, in a greater capacity, to ensure each resident has a voice, no matter their job, income, or political leaning. Accountability without transparency is impossible, and I will continue to maintain open channels of communication with my constituency.
3) Livability: Without disregard for affordability or accountability, I promise to continue working towards a community that is both safer and more financially secure for our citizenry, much as I have in my City Council role. Expanding choices on where to live, work and recreate and improving public safety. Work continues towards ensuring quicker response times by our first responders, while providing the best training and protective gear.
